Intimate Irongate Restaurant Wedding in Washington, DC: Julia and Alex
Anytime I have the opportunity to be a part of a non-traditional wedding, I feel lucky. The pandemic brought on the need for mini weddings and elopements, and I hope that is one trend that sticks around. Julia and Alex met when they were only 19 and have been together for almost 10 years, growing and changing with each other. It allowed for a very personal wedding with meaningful vows and celebrating with their closest family and friends.
We gathered at Irongate Restaurant in Washington, DC, where I have photographed intimate weddings before. The rainy start to the afternoon only added to the intimate feeling as we huddled a bit closer together under the clear tent on the restaurant’s patio. The glow of twinkle lights, warm candlelight, and light and airy white blooms elevated the overcast afternoon.
We were lucky enough to have a break in the rain for wedding day portraits in the neighborhood surrounding the restaurant. I loved Julia’s bridal style- her modern minimalist long sleeve wedding dress with a leg slit that allowed her hot pink bridal heels to show through. I loved that pop of color- perfect for brightening up the cool spring day! The evening ended with a seated dinner under bistro lights at long family-style tables and a silent disco dance party.
