Marriott Marquis wedding: Laura and Sidarth
I consider myself lucky to meet and know so many wonderful clients, and so many of them I take something away from hearing the speeches given by family and friends. In Laura and Sidarth's case, their dedication to supporting charities that are meaningful in their lives was the overwhelming message that I took away from their family. Sidarth spoke about how from a very early age he was taught the importance of charity work. Every year for Christmas his parents required him to give away his favorite gift to someone who could use it better. Can you imagine? How hard that must have been for him, but what an important lesson he learned from even a very early age. I shared this story with my boys at our family meeting on Sunday, and this sparked much conversation, as you might imagine.
The family designated the following charities for their wedding donations:
The Banyan, An organization that helps individuals struggling with mental health in the town of Chennai, India. Vishranthi Home for the Aged, near Chennai, India Goonj, in New Delhi, India Nothing But Nets, in Washington, DC Room to Read, in San Francisco, CA Children's National Medical Center, in Washington, DC
From this story, you can tell that Laura and Sidarth have a strong foundation of kindness in their lives and relationships. I am lucky to have been a part of this celebration, only wishing I could have traveled to India to photograph their traditional Tamil Brahmin wedding. It was delightful to see a talented photographer, Sephi Bergerson, photograph the celebrations in India: http://wedding.sephi.com/tambrahm-wedding/. (FYI, photographing a traditional wedding in India is one of my bucket list items, so if you you know anyone who would be interested in contracting me for this, please have them contact me)
Alongside Sidarth's parents, Laura and Sidarth graciously entertained over 600 guests at the brand new Marriott Marquis Hotel in DC. Dancing, traditional vegetarian Indian food and celebrations followed. Congrats! - Jennifer and Elisha.
